Kathmandu, 22 Dec : Newly elected members of the House of Representatives are taking oath of office and secrecy at 1:00 pm today.
A programme has been scheduled for swearing-in ceremony at the Federal Parliament Building, New Baneshwor, according to the Federal Parliament Secretariat.
There is a provision that the eldest member of the HoR would administer oath of office and secrecy to other members before the election to the post of the Speaker. In this connection, President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Wednesday administered oath of office and secrecy to the eldest member of the Lower House, Pashupati Shumsher JB Rana.
The eldest HoR member takes oath of office and secrecy from the President and he/she administers the oath of office and secrecy to other members later, as per the constitutional provision. There is the constitutional provision that the seniormost member of the House of Representatives by age among the members present will preside over the meeting of the House in case the Speaker and Deputy Speaker has not been elected or both the posts remaining vacant.
